The point of departure for Oded Zeidel’s works is industrial landscapes and construction sites in the Jerusalem area. Chimneys, streetlights, factory yards, and rooftops appear in dozens of drawings, paintings, and silkscreen prints — all on a small scale and each time in a slightly different variation.
The color range shifts from restrained monochromatic tones to rich, carnivalesque palettes. The characteristic color reduction of silkscreen printing sometimes permeates the paintings and drawings as well. The dimensions of the works, the choice of a limited range of imagery, and the painterly approach dictate a kind of minimalism.
But it is precisely from the commandments that a spectrum of possibilities and nuances opens up, which excels in variety and surprising reverberations. The viewer is invited to follow the changes, with the stage being given to the movement of everything, even each work in itself. Every print, every drawing and painting is a world in itself, and the subtle differences become the subject of the exhibition and are no less significant than the painted images.
